What this is
NARDEON (nardeon.com) is a site for playing Long Nardy and Short Nardy (backgammon): online against another player, with a friend via a link, or against the computer. You can play as a guest; an account adds a rating and match history. There is no playing for stakes: coins are never put on a match.
Match and points
- “Match to 3” means you play games until someone reaches 3 points (a match to 1 is a single game).
- A regular win is worth 1 point. A gammon is worth 2: the opponent hasn’t borne off a single checker.
- Short Nardy also has the backgammon, worth 3 points: the opponent hasn’t borne off a single checker and still has a checker in your home or on the bar. Long Nardy has no backgammon.
Coins
- Coins are in-game points that exist only on the site. They are not money and cannot stand in for money.
- Coins cannot be bought, sold, withdrawn, exchanged for money, goods or services, or transferred to another player.
- You get coins when you sign up, and as a daily bonus when you are almost out. Coins are never put on the outcome of a match: you can’t win or lose them in a game.
- The administration may correct a balance if coins were obtained through a site error or unfair play.
Tournaments
- Tournaments are run by the administration: single elimination (lose and you’re out), seeded by rating; if the number of entrants isn’t 4, 8, 16 or 32, the top seeds get a bye.
- The entry fee is charged when you register. You can withdraw before the start and get the fee back, but you can’t register for the same tournament again. If too few players have registered by the start, or the tournament is cancelled, all fees are refunded.
- When your pairing is ready, the game calls you to the match. You have 3 minutes to press “I’m ready”; a player who doesn’t loses without playing. If neither player shows up, the higher seed advances.
- The prize pool is the entry fees minus the platform’s 5% fee, plus any amount the platform guarantees. 1st place gets 60%, 2nd gets 25%, and each losing semifinalist gets 7.5% (in a one-round tournament: 70% and 30%).
Clubs
- Any player with an account can create a club (up to two clubs per account). A club has an owner, agents and players, its own tables and its own rating.
- The platform administration puts coins into the club fund. The owner hands them out to players and agents, and agents hand them out to their own players. Every transfer is recorded in the club ledger, and each player can see their own entries.
- A club can take back from a player only what it has given that player. Coins won or received in other ways stay with the player.
- Club matches don’t affect the overall rating.
- Selling and buying coins for money is forbidden, including through clubs and agents. Such a club gets frozen, and accounts may be banned. Seen it happen? Report it from the club page.
Fair play
- The dice are rolled by the server, and you can check them: before the match the server commits to its secret, after the match it reveals it, and the game recalculates every roll in your browser. Under the match result you’ll see “Dice are fair”.
- Forbidden: using software hints during play, colluding with an opponent, losing on purpose, and creating multiple accounts to boost your own rating.
- The administration reviews suspicious matches; violations lead to an account ban, and unfairly obtained coins are removed.
Time and connection
- Each move starts with a few free seconds; after that, your time bank for the match is used. Run out of time and you lose the match.
- If you lose connection, you have one minute to return to the match. If you don’t return, the match goes to your opponent. Resigning is also a loss.
- If the site stops a match (a restart or an administration decision), it doesn’t count for either player.
Account
- Don’t share your password. Everything done from your account is considered done by you.
- Your display name must not be offensive or impersonate another person or the administration.
