Play Backgammon Full Screen

A backgammon board deserves the whole screen. NARDEON runs in the browser, and there are three ways to get rid of tabs and address bars: the Full screen button by the board, your browser's own full-screen mode, and the home-screen app.

The Full screen button

Once a game starts, look at the edge of the board, next to the settings and resign buttons. The Full screen button hides the browser's tabs and address bar so the board fills the display. Press it again — it now says Exit full screen — or hit Esc to return.

You'll see the button when two things are true:

On a computer: F11 works too

On Windows, F11 puts the whole browser into full-screen mode in Chrome, Edge and Firefox; on a Mac it's the green button in the window corner or Control–Command–F. The difference from the in-game button is small: F11 covers the whole browser, the game button just the game page. Either way you get a big board with nothing to install — see backgammon for PC for more on playing on Windows and Mac.

On a phone: add the game to your home screen

On a phone the best "full screen" is the home-screen app. NARDEON is a web app that can be added to your home screen; launched from the icon it opens in its own window, without the browser's address bar, like any app from a store.

Step-by-step instructions with more detail are on the backgammon app page.

Portrait or landscape?

Both work. Held upright, the board turns so it uses the height of the screen, and the buttons sit underneath. Turn the phone sideways and you get the wide layout with the Full screen button — a good fit for tablets.

More room on the board

All of this is free, with no ads to cover the board. Full screen works the same in backgammon, long nardy, against the computer and on one screen for two.

FAQ

How do I play backgammon full screen?

Start a game and press the Full screen button at the edge of the board (the icon with arrows pointing outward). Press it again, or Esc on a keyboard, to exit.

Why don't I see the Full screen button?

It appears when the board is laid out for a wide screen — a computer, a tablet or a phone held sideways — and only if your browser supports full-screen pages. Safari on iPhone doesn't, so there you use the home-screen app instead.

How do I get full screen on iPhone?

Open nardeon.com in Safari, tap Share, choose Add to Home Screen and launch the game from the new icon. It opens in its own window without Safari's address bar.

Can I use F11 on a PC?

Yes. F11 in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on Windows switches the whole browser to full screen; on a Mac use the green window button or Control-Command-F. The game's own button does the same for just the game page.

Does full screen work in long nardy too?

Yes. Full screen works the same in backgammon, long nardy, against the computer, with a friend and on one screen.
