Backgammon in your browser — nothing to install
NARDEON is a browser game. It works on Android and iPhone, on tablets and on Windows, Mac or Linux computers — anywhere there's a modern browser. That means no app store, no download on a slow connection and no storage space used up. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.
Want it one tap away? Use Add to Home Screen in your phone's browser: the game gets its own icon and opens like an app, without the browser's address bar.
Play as a guest: no sign-up, no email
As a guest you get every way to play:
- Random opponent — matchmaking picks someone looking for the same game and match length.
- A friend by link — create a room and send the link or the 5-character code. How it works.
- The computer — three levels: Beginner, Amateur and Master. More about the bot.
- Two players, one screen — pass the phone or sit at one tablet. Details.
Both games are available everywhere: backgammon (short nardy) and long nardy, matches to 1, 3, 5 or 7 points.

Free doesn't mean cut-down
- Fair dice you can check. In online matches the server rolls the dice and your browser verifies every roll after the match — how it works.
- Undo before you confirm. Take back any step until you confirm the move. “Move without Done” and “One-tap moves” are in the settings.
- A dropped connection isn't an instant loss. You have a minute to come back (on your turn the move clock keeps running).
- 21 languages. The interface follows your browser's language — English, Russian, Turkish, German, Arabic and more — and you can switch it in the settings.
Your first game in four steps
- Open nardeon.com on any device. You land in the lobby — no pop-up asking you to register.
- At the top of the lobby, switch between Short (backgammon) and Long (long nardy).
- Press Play now to find a real opponent, or Vs computer to practice first.
- Roll, move your checkers and press Done. In online games you get 12 free seconds per move, then a 2-minute bank for the whole match; against the computer there's no clock at all.
Playing a friend? Their link opens straight into your room. If they haven't played before, the game just asks What's your name? — the name your opponent will see — and seats them at the board.
Things people worry about
- "Free" with a catch? Every mode and all three computer levels, Master included, are open to guests from the first visit.
- Your data. A guest gives no email and no password. An account asks only for what's needed to log in.
- Slow or old phone. The board only redraws while something moves; switch off Animations in the settings and checkers jump straight to their point.
Free backgammon download vs playing online
A downloaded app makes sense if you want to play with no internet at all. If you have a connection, the browser is simpler: it starts in seconds, updates itself and works the same on every device you own. New to the game? Start with how to play or the beginner's guide.

FAQ
Is it really free?
Yes. Every mode is free, and there's no playing for stakes: coins are never put on a match and can't be cashed out.
Do I have to download anything?
No. The game runs in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer. If you like, add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.
Can I play without an account?
Yes. You play as a guest straight away: against random opponents, with a friend by link, against the computer or two players on one screen. You only need an account for a rating, the leaderboard, match history and tournaments.
Are there ads?
Not at the moment: there are no ads before, during or after a game.
Does it work on a slow phone?
Yes. The board is light to draw and only animates when something moves, so it runs smoothly on budget phones and doesn't drain the battery.
Can I keep my progress as a guest?
A guest can play everything, but rating and match history are tied to an account. Sign up with email, Google or Apple when you want to keep them.
