How to start
- Open the game and choose Vs computer.
- Pick Long as the game.
- Choose Match to 1, 3, 5 or 7 points and the Level.
- The opening roll decides who starts — then it's your move.
Three levels
| Level | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Beginner | Plenty of mistakes — ideal while you learn how checkers leave the head and where they can land. |
| Amateur | An even game for someone who knows the rules; it punishes big blunders. |
| Master | Plays the best move by its own evaluation. A match to 3 against Master is a proper test. |
Why practice long nardy against the computer
Long nardy rules have a few traps for newcomers — especially players who know backgammon. Against the computer you can learn them at your own pace:
- The head rule. Only one checker leaves the head per turn. The game tells you when no more can leave this turn.
- No hitting. A point with even one opposing checker is closed. The board only highlights points you can actually reach.
- The six-point block. A wall of six points in a row is allowed only if at least one opposing checker is already past it — the game won't let you build an illegal one.
- Playing the whole roll. You must use both dice when possible; the game only offers moves that do.
There's no clock, and Undo step lets you take back a move before you press Done — perfect for trying two plans and comparing.
What to practice
- The opening: getting checkers off the head steadily, and what to do with 6-6, 4-4 and 3-3 on the first turn.
- Blocks: building five-point walls in front of the computer's checkers.
- Timing: keeping flexible checkers so you're not forced to break your position.
- The race and the mars: bringing checkers home fast enough to bear off at least one before the computer finishes.
The ideas behind each are in long nardy strategy.
